Yammi Wear and Global Children

Helping the Children in Cambodia

Yammi Wear recently contacted Laura from Global Children wanting to support children in need in Cambodia. Global Children was thrilled that Yammi wear’s philanthropic spirit was being extended to include Global Children and therefore the children of Cambodia.

Global Children currently runs a number of programs in Cambodia including the Orphanage~Performing Arts Program, teaching traditional Khmer music and dance. Kompong Chhnang Orphanage located 2 hours from Phnom Penh, Cambodia’s capital city, is home to approximately 40 children. Currently the Orphanage~Performing Arts Program teaches traditional music to the children but because of financial constraints has been unable to provide the vital and beautiful tradition of Apsara dance. Because of Yammi Wear’s dedication to helping orphans in Cambodia, they will be making a donation to initiate the dance program at Kompong Chhnang. This is a wonderful step forward for the children. Combining both music and dance will allow them to engage in a vital part of their rich culture and provide them with an artistic outlet.

Additionally, Yammi Wear has committed to providing continuous funding to Kompong Cham Orphanage for an English Literacy Project. Kompong Cham Orphanage, home to approximately 100 children (and is Yamisha’s orphanage), located a little more than two hours from Phnom Penh. Currently, the children at Kompong Cham Orphanage have no activities to engage in. Yammi Wear will be the first to support this new program providing English classes to the older children. Teaching English is an important way to help these children help themselves, giving them an opportunity to create a more positive and fruitful future. Global Children is grateful to Yammi Wear for making this commitment and for Yammi Wear this is a dream come true.  Yassin (owner) while in Cambodia took Aspara dance classes for 2 hours and made a promise to her daughter then 5 months old, that she will start a dance program whether in Cambodia or in the United States.

We anticipate these programs will be underway in late fall or early spring. To learn more about Global Children, our programs in Cambodia, Jamaica and New York, or to make a donation to any of these projects please visit our website at www.global-children.org or contact me at info

If you would like to donate to the Kompong Chhnang Dance Program or Kompong Cham English Literacy Project you may contact Global Children and specify the programs of interest.
